Hi, I’m Shirley!

I’ve been sewing for my entire life and finally decided I wanted to teach others to sew. The purpose of teaching others to sew is so they can see if sewing is what they would like to learn more about and if they think it’s a fun hobby to do.

I try my best to make my classes fun, but of course, there are technical terms to learn, but the best way to learn is with practice.

Preschool

Even toddlers/preschoolers like to learn how to do new creative things.

The “My Toddler Is Sewing” is the first step.

Hand Sewing

Hand sewing is essential because you will use it to fix your clothes that need repairing and to do the finishing touches to your future sewing projects.  I have a beginner hand sewing “Boot Camp” class, hand sewing “Practice & Reference” & a hand sewing “Quilting Basics” & “Simple Projects” for Kids & Adults classes.

Machine Sewing

Machine sewing is the next step to learning how to sew. It requires knowledge about your machine, all about fabric, notions, patterns, and putting it all together into a project. The “I Can’t Believe I’m Sewing 1” class teaches you the basics of your machine and how to control the machine. You also get to sew your first machine sewed project.

Help

These classes are for people who already know how to sew or for somebody who has a project and are simply not sure how to continue.

Later on, if you need help with a pattern or just have a question, I have a class called “Project Help”. Sometimes commercial pattern instructions simply don’t make sense. I will do my best to explain the information as easily as possible

to solve your problem. I also have “Techniques 1” & Techniques 2” classes to further your experience and help you with your projects. Read more here.

Seasonal

The seasonal classes are more hand sewing practice. Each one is for an occasion during the year or a holiday like my “Roses Anytime” & “Super Hero Mask, Cape & Skirt” class.

Online Classes

Online classes are sent anywhere in the world by email. They are in a workbook form that you complete by following the steps in the workbook. I have some online classes for the basics sent to you by email. Email me for which ones are complete and ready to send to you.

Toddler

The simple projects for the toddler/preschoolers give them some extra basic practice.

Hand Sewing

Hand sewing is the beginning of learning how to sew. In my “Hand Sewing Boot Camp” online class or my “Hand Sewing Practice & Reference” online class you will learn about notions and supplies and several stitches a few techniques and practice projects.

Machine Sewing

In the machine sewing online class, “I Can’t Believe I’m Sewing 1” you will learn all about fabric, notions, patterns, and putting it all together into a first project.

I'm now teaching hand & machine sewing at the
Carson City Community Center.
